Steak Pitta Melt

This comes together in no time and is perfect for a lunch or a light dinner. Using soy sauce, butter and sugar to cook your steaks makes them super delicious - I do it all the time. The steak is stuffed into a fluffy pitta with red onion and mozzarella. Make it your own by using your favourite cheese and finishing with your favourite hot sauce. You can use your favourite steak cut for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • pitta 4 (halved)
  • grated mozzarella 100 g (grated)
  • thin cut beef steaks 395 g
  • red onion 2 (sliced)
  • butter 50 g
  • soy sauce splash

  • hot sauce to serve

Method

Preheat the oven & prep the pittas

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan.
  • Place your pittas in a toaster for a couple of minutes, this will help them open up, cut in half once warm.

Cook the onions & steak

  • Peel and thinly slice the red onions. Thinly slice the steaks.
  • Heat a glug of oil in a frying pan over a medium heat, add the red onions and gently fry for 3-4 minutes, stirring regularly.
  • Add the steaks and cook for 2-3 minutes until they’re cooked through. Add the butter, soy sauce and sugar, stir to combine. Season to taste with salt.

Assemble the pittas

  • Stuff the pittas with the red onion and steak, top with the grated mozzarella and place in the oven for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  • Plate up the Steak Pitta Melts with your favourite hot sauce and enjoy!
