Savoury Ham & Cheese Pastry Swirls

These super simple savoury twists are easy to make using convenient ingredients such as shop bought puff pastry and tomato sauce. They can easily be made vegetarian by using thin strips of courgette or bell pepper instead of the ham.

Ingredients

  • egg 1 (beaten)
  • tomato pasta sauce 5 tbsp
  • puff pastry 375 g
  • sliced ham 100 g
  • grated cheddar cheese 125 g

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6. Line 8 holes of a muffin tin with non-stick muffin cases or strips of baking parchment, approx 10-12cm. Alternatively, if you are using a silicone muffin tray you won’t need to use anything to line the holes.
  • Remove the pastry from the fridge for 5 minutes before un-rolling and cutting widthways into 8 strips.
  • Spread the tomato sauce on top of each pastry strip. Add a layer of ham then scatter the cheese on top. Roll each one up loosely to form a coil, and sit in the muffin tin holes.
  • Brush the top of the pastry and any edges you can see with the beaten egg and scatter any remaining cheese over the top of each one. Roll each one up loosely to form a coil, and sit in the muffin tin holes. Bake in the oven for 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Leave to cool slightly in the tin before removing and serve warm or at room temperature. Tuck in and enjoy!
