Air Fryer Roast Chicken

Yes it is true, you can cook a whole roast chicken dinner in an air fryer! I use a duel air fryer for this recipe, but it also works well with a large single basket air fryer, too. Please note, we are also including an oven method as part of the instructions.

Start your shop...

Pick which supermarket you want to send your ingredients to:

Ingredients

  • onion 1 (sliced)
  • fresh rosemary 1 tbsp (chopped)
  • potato 800 g (chopped)
  • carrot 4 (chopped)
  • stuffing mix 85 g
  • butter 30 g
  • whole chicken 1500 g
  • yorkshire puddings 4
  • chicken gravy granules 30 g

Method

Prep the ingredients

  • Peel and slice the onion. Finely chop the rosemary. Peel and chop the potatoes into approx. 4cm chunks. Peel and chop the carrots.

Make the stuffing

  • Prepare the stuffing according to the packet instruction, adding the butter, onion and rosemary to the mix.
  • Once the stuffing is ready, roll into 2 balls per serving and set aside.

Oven Method

  • If you want to cook your chicken in the oven, preheat the oven to 190°C and follow all the same steps. However, give your chicken more time. 45 minutes to start with, then add the stuffing balls and vegetables and give it another 45 minutes until fully cooked through. Always check the back of packet instructions as well, as times may vary depending on the size of your chicken.

Prep and cook the chicken (air fryer)

  • Drizzle the chicken with a glug of oil and season with salt and pepper all over.
  • Place the chicken breast-side down into the air fryer, cook for 20 minutes at 190°C.

Prep the potatoes & cook the stuffing

  • Place the potatoes into a bowl, drizzle with some oil, season with salt and pepper, and toss to coat.
  • After the 30 minutes, turn the chicken breast side up and arrange the stuffing balls around it. Cook for another 30 minutes.

Cook the potatoes & carrots

  • Add the potatoes into the second basket and cook for 15 minutes at 180°C, shaking a few times during the cooking.
  • While the potatoes are cooking, using the same bowl you used for the potatoes, place the carrots into the bowl, drizzle with some oil, season with salt and pepper and toss to cover.
  • After 15 minutes, add the carrots to the potato basket and shake well. Cook for another 10-15 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked.

Leave the chicken to rest & cook the Yorkshire puddings

  • Once the chicken has been cooking for 50 minutes in total, your stuffing balls and chicken should be cooked. When pierced, the juices from the chicken should run clear, you can also check that the internal temperature has reached 75°C. Remove both from the air fryer and leave to rest.
  • Add the Yorkshire puddings to the same basket and cook for 3-4 minutes at 185°C.

Plate Up

  • Prepare the instant gravy according to the packet instructions.
  • Plate up and enjoy your roast dinner!
